Pamela Alencar Souza acquires Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day one – Maria Lenk Trophy
Pamela Alencar Souza of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM acquired gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on primary day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Tuesday, April 24.
Souza demonstrated her nerve-wrecking pace in the distant breaststroke event. With her splendid performance and unrelenting efforts, she went full throttle in the 200m discipline and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal.
Souza faced no trouble in occupying gold medal of the discipline as she remained in a comfortable lead over her challengers and posted a time of 2 minutes and 31.66 seconds.
Her notable accomplishment remained 1.15 seconds faster from her following challenger, Julia Sebastian of UNISANTA, who concluded her swim in the second best place by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 32.81 seconds.
Similarly, Sebastian’s gruelling effort placed her 2.06 seconds ahead of her subsequent swimmer, Juliana Marangoni Marin of FIAT/MINAS, who settled on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 34.87 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Carolina Hurga Mussi of ECP/SABESP, who stayed almost half body length behind and tapped the finishing blockade for fourth position by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 35.39 seconds.
The fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Giovanna Dorigon of CURITIBANO, who remained nearly 0.70 seconds slower from Mussi and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 36.11 seconds.
She was trailed by Michele Sambugari Schmidt of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who stayed considerably slower from her foregoing competitor and hit the wall for sixth position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 37.71 seconds.
Seventh position of the 200m event was obtained by Thamy Ventorin of CRF/RJ, who stayed almost half a second behind and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 38.29 seconds.
Ventorin was trailed by Beatriz Azzolini Travalon of ECP/SABESP, who ended her race in eighth best place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 39.47 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders raked medals for their alluring efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
