Pan Am Junior Championships: Cherie Chow slaughters Miria Santos Silva to surge into quarter-final
Cherie Chow, a talented young shuttler form USA, proved her mettle on court as she surged into Girl’s Singles U19 quarter-final after crushing Miria Santos Silva of Brazil in round-of-16 showdown at the XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 on Wednesday,
July 25, in Canada.
The in-form Cherie, who is seeded at number two in Girl’s Singles U19 draw of the tournament, was one class above her un-seeded opponent as she played dictating game and easily stamped her mark over Miria.
The second seeded Cherie was too strong for Miria on court as she played with impressive control over the pace of rallies and ended up the contest in straight games with a fantastic margin on score board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Miria failed to prove her worth as she found herself quite helpless against her higher ranked USA opponent. She failed to employ her skills as the pace of rallies was out of her control and she lost the match with a humiliating
margin.
The first game of this contest was completely lopsided when Cherie put up staggering show of fast and attacking badminton and managed to set up an incredible 11-1 lead on score board until the end of first half.
After the one-minute break, Cherie continued her killing performance without showing any respect to her rival and maintained a wonderful difference on score board.
The higher ranked Cherie continued putting up superb show and remained positive all the way to wrap up the first game with a 21-5 score on the board.
In the following set, Cherie remained consistent showing her elevated craft on court as she played with tremendous speed and took an 11-6 lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, Cherie did not slow down the pace of rallies at any stage. She dictated her rival in all areas of the court and remained successful in grabbing the second game with a terrific 21-9 score on the board.
The impressive Cherie emerged as the winner against Miria in straight games with a smashing 21-5 and 21-9 score on the board.
