Pan Am Junior Championships: James Ho powers his way to Under-17 Boy’s Singles quarter-finals
The sudden injury of Francielton Farias in pre quarter-final tussle fired James Ho into quarter-finals of Under-17 Boy’s Singles category in XXI Pan Am Junior Championships on July 25, 2012.
This 47-minute encounter prolonged to three sets before ending with concluding margin of 17-21, 21-17 and 17-10.
Though the local campaigner had a horrendous start but he stood full to his stature in the ending two games at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada.
Now, he will be up against US shuttler Alex Cheng and a win will take him to semi-finals of the home event.
James Ho will surely utilise his confidence which he has earned by remaining invincible in preliminary rounds.
Earlier in pre quarter-final round, he registered a splendid 2-1 win over Brazilian campaigner and alarmed all the contestants.
The spirited Canadian lad took some time to get on track which resulted in a severe blow in the very first set.
Meanwhile, Francielton Farias pocketed full benefits of this situation and pushed his rival in all areas of the court.
He bagged the first half with 11-7 and then magnified the impact by registering 15-11 total in third quarter of the set.
At this stage, he made some unforced errors but it did not weaken his grip over the game. He maintained a decent edge all the way to final moments and finished first set with a significant margin of 21-17.
The second set started with both shuttlers striking hard to gain an early advantage but none of them could make a difference.
They were locked in tense situation at 7-7 when James Ho showed his panache and placed a respectable figure of 11-7 before the interval.
He did not lose this rhythm even after one-minute break and added six valuable points in his total.
The Brazilian shuttler strived hard to come out of this deficit but he kept trailing behind until decisive score of 17-21.
This was certainly not his day as he met a sudden injury in the decider and conceded walkover.
Francielton Farias struggled from very first stroke but things got worse in the second half which resulted in James Ho’s victory with final result of 17-10.
