Pan Am Junior Championships: Nikte Sotomayor ousts Luz Maria Zornoza in Girl’s Singles round-of-16
Nikte Sotomayor, a budding player from Guatemala, gave her best shot on court as she penetrated into Girl’s Singles U19 quarter-final after ousting Peru’s Luz Maria Zornoza in round-of-16 battle at the XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 at Sherwood Park, Canada, on Wednesday, July 25.
The spirited Nikte showed her aggressive approach as she played attacking badminton and managed to win the battle after working to her maximum potential for 48 minutes on court.
Nikte showed her tremendous skills while playing against the talented Maria and emerged as the winner in hard-fought three games with a respectable margin on score board.
On the other hand, Maria played impressive badminton in opening game and grabbed it. However, she remained struggling in the following both games and lost the battle in rubber sets with a decent score.
In the opening game, both shuttlers showed their brilliance while playing aggressive and positive badminton.
However, it was Nikte who showed remarkable performance and took a good lead of 11-8 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Nikte tried her best to maintain the difference but failed to stop her rival from catching up the deficit.
At the ending phase, Nikte could not put up strong show against Maria and lost the first game with a close score of 20-22.
In the following game, Nikte showed a wonderful performance as she played attacking badminton and took a superb lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the interval, Nikte continued her elevated run against Maria by playing at her best speed and eventually took the game with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the decider, Nikte failed to play competitive badminton in opening half and remained struggling at 6-11 until the mid-game interval.
However, Nikte played to her maximum potential after the break and ended the lead of her rival by reaching at 12-12.
Both shuttlers progressed with an equal pace and reached at 17-17 when Nikte showed her brilliance and took four points in a row to end up the game with a margin of 21-17.
Nikte ousted Maria in this superb pre-quarter-final battle in 48 minutes with a thrilling 20-22, 21-15 and 21-17 score on the board.
