Pan Am Junior Team Event: Phillip Chew, Cherie Chow thunder in Mixed Doubles tie of title match

Mixed Doubles partners Phillip Chew and Cherie Chow played with great precision and outshined Nathan Osborne-Josephine Wu in final round of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event on July 24, 2012.
This 22-minute tussle was opening encounter of title match between USA and Canada which was staged at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada.
The victorious duo showed superb coordination and ended this battle by registering favourable result of 23-21 and 21-13.
Though, the native shuttlers had great support of local crowd but still they failed to register their mark whereas the US campaigners played impeccable badminton and provided their team a perfect start.
Phillip and Cherie kick-started their progress by clinching very first match point and maintained this rhythm all the way to final moments of this showdown.
In the opening game, they unleashed flurry of masterly crafted strokes straight away in the beginning and established a comfortable lead with 5-2 total.
They carried this tempo in next couple of rallies and pushed their rivals on the back-foot with 9-4. They did not lose focus and managed to finish first half with a decent figure of 11-5.
However, the story was entirely different in later part of the game as the opposing team stormed back with a strong reply.
The Canadian shuttlers geared up and made quick progress by prevailing in four consecutive rallies.
Nathan and Josephine caught their competitors at 12-12 and then remained close until game point situation.
They put a commendable show of skills in final stage but still they could not avoid a 23-21 defeat in first set.
This first set loss put them under huge pressure and they could not lift burden of this deficit in following game.
On the other hand, the US players relished full benefits of their early advantage and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
The twosome of Phillip and Cherie mounted pressure by grabbing the first half with 11-6 and then manipulated every loop-hole in second half of the set.
They maintained a notable difference of eight points until last shot was played and fetched a vital match point for their team with 21-13 score on the board.
