Pan Am Junior Team Event: Ramon Garrido trounces Jamari Rose in playoff match
Men’s Singles expert Ramon Garrido exhibited great fighting skills and thrashed Jamari Rose in playoff round of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event on Tuesday, July 24, 2012.
This showdown was the final tie of a playoff match between Jamaica and Mexico which was played at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada.
Both contenders remained head-to-head for 25 minutes and ended this battle with concluding result of 21-18, 17-21 and 17-21.
The Mexican campaigner played with great conviction and emerged as victor despite losing the very first set.
On the other hand, Jamari Rose could not capitalise on his early advantage and crashed out in crucial moments of the tussle.
He grabbed all the attention with a fine show of skills in the opening game. He was bit sluggish in the start but then six uninterrupted points provided him the required momentum.
The Jamaican shuttler gathered valuable points at steady pace and gained a decent advantage with 9-6 total. He managed to maintain the upper hand all the way to mid-game break and placed a notable figure of 11-9.
However, he committed some unforced errors in the third quarter of the set which resulted in tight margin of 16-16.
At this stage, Jamari Rose showed strong character and bagged first set with 21-18 score on the board.
The second set of the match started with couple of gruelling rallies as both shuttlers strived hard to keep the opponent grounded but neither of them could hit the mark until half time.
In the beginning, Ramon Garrido was enjoying a comfortable lead with 7-3 total but he lost focus and allowed his competitor to narrow the gap.
This downfall weakened his grip and brought him down to score position of 11-10 before the interval.
The Mexican shuttler perked up after one-minute break and started making difference on points table. He kept dictating his opponent until game point situation and survived this part of battle with 21-17.
Third set of the match was full of drama as the Jamaican campaigner was dominating at one stage but then Ramon came in his way and locked the honour with a striking knock of 21-17.
