Pan Am Junior Team Event: USA performs clean sweep against Mexico in Group stage match
USA claimed top spot in Group B of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event after trouncing Mexico in group stage match at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada on July 22, 2012.
The talented US campaigners did not lose grip at any stage of the battle and alarmed all the contestants by registering a splendid 5-0 victory.
Mixed Doubles partners Jeffrey Kuo and Christine Yang intercepted Daniel Martinez-Sabrina Solis and set the path to victory for their compatriot.
This opening tie lasted for just 20 minutes and the victorious duo finished this battle with a favourable result of 21-14 and 21-14.
This 1-0 lead provided Men’s Singles expert Alan Shekhtman a perfect stage to display his badminton craft.
He did not squander this opportunity and fetched a vital match point for his team by stamping Andres Quadri in a hard fought three-set encounter.
Alan Shekhtman played his heart out for 44 minutes and locked the honour with concluding figures of 11-21, 21-16 and 21-13.
Next chapter of this victory saga was written by Women’s Singles shuttler Iris Wang who ousted Haramara Gaitan in just two games. She took just 30 minutes on court to pile up a winning total of 21-14 and 21-9.
This win sealed USA’s victory but still both teams decided to go all the way to five games.
The Men’s Doubles duo Phillip Chew-Kenneth h*i followed the successful trail and proved their point against Ramon Garrido-Daniel Martinez.
They consumed their energies for 22 minutes and sent the Mexican rivals packing with 21-18 and 21-11 score on the board.
Last but not the least, Women’s Doubles partnership of Cherie Chow and Emily Kan wrapped this splendid day in an impressive style.
They looked in prime touch and kept the opposing duo Nydia Gonzalez-Pamela Treviño completely grounded throughout the final tie of the match.
The US female shuttlers bagged opening set with a tight yet decisive margin of 21-19 and then raised hands as Champions with an overwhelming figure of 21-9.
Now USA will take on relatively lower ranked Jamaica and win will cement its spot in knock out round of the tournament.
