Pan Am junior Championships: Benny Lin tames William Cheung to surge into U19 quarter-final
Canada’s Benny Lin proved his superb class and made his home fans happy by surging into Boy’s Singles U19 quarterfinal as he outplayed William Cheung of USA in round-of-16 showdown at the XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 on Wednesday, July 25, in Canada.
The spirited local shuttler was on a different level while playing against William as he showed a wonderful aggression and also remained positive on court which helped him to earn victory in a one-sided fashion.
The in-form Canadian player was in tremendous form on court as he remained consistent in taking the bird early from all areas of the court and remained successful in thrashing his USA rival in straight sets without even letting him to finish close on score
board.
On the other hand, William was not ready to tackle the attacking play of his rival as he failed to match the pace of rallies and also failed to break the flow of his Canadian challenger. He eventually crashed out without putting up strong show.
Benny was impressive in his aggressive approach as he did not take much time in setting up an impressive lead on score board until the mid-game interval by reaching at 11-6.
After the one-minute break, the spirited Canadian continued showing his brilliance without slowing down his speed.
The impressive Benny was in complete control of rallies and he dictated William in all corners aiming to maintain his pressure and eventually grabbed the set with a stunning score of 21-8.
In the second game, William also played aggressive badminton and maintained his speed at the best level. He remained close to his in-form opponent until the mid-game interval.
After the break, both shuttlers continued playing attacking and composed badminton and reached at the ending phase without managing any lead until 18-18.
At this stage, Benny became aggressive and executed powerful smashes from the rear-court area and remained successful in taking three consecutive points to end up the set with a margin of 21-18.
Benny wrapped up victory in pre-quarter-final battle in just 24 minutes with a superb 21-8 and 21-18 margin on score board.
