Pan Xiaoting wins women's 9-ball gold in Asiad
China won another gold medal in the 2010 Asian Games billiards and snooker competition on Friday.
Pan Xiaoting defeated Chinese Taipei's Chou Chieh-yu 7-5 in the women's 9-ball final.
The Chinese took the first three frames to set the early pace. Chou won the fourth rack but Pan bounced back to take a 4-1 advantage.
The Taiwanese then won the next three frames to tie the scores at 4-4. The two players split the next two racks as the scores remained tied at 5-5. But Pan was the more determined player as she took the
next two frames to secure the victory.
Pan earlier defeated another Taiwanese Lin Yuan-chun 7-3 to reach the final. Her other victims were Singapore's Hoe Shu Wah (7-2), Filipina Rubilen Amit (7-6) and South Korean Cha You-ram (7-6).
China has now won four golds in the billiards and snooker competition. The men's snooker team of Ding Junhui, Liang Wenbo and Tian Pengfei won gold on Monday while Chen Siming topped the women’s 6-red
snooker singles the following day. Liu Shasha ruled the women's 8-ball event yesterday. 
The final event of the competition is the men's snooker singles, which concludes tomorrow.
The last 16 and quarterfinals of the event were played earlier today.
Thailand's Dechawat Poomjaeng defeated Iran's Vafaei Ayouri Hossein 4-1; Hong Kong's Fung Kwok Wai ousted Pakistan's Agha Khurram Hussain 4-1; Ding downed Indian Pankaj Advani 4-1; Afghanistan's Salih
Mohammad Khan beat Syria's Karam Fatima 4-1. 
In the lower half of the draw, Marco Fu of Hong Kong blanked Muhammad Sajjad of Pakistan 4-0; Ang Boon Chin of Singapore defeated Thor Chuan Leong of Malaysia 4-2; Liang trounced Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Abdullah
Asseri 4-0; Aditya Snehal Mehta of India downed Chinese Taipei's Wu Yu-lun 4-2.
In the quarterfinals, Ding whipped Fung 4-0. The Chinese easily took the first frame 80-12 and the second 29-14. He dominated the third frame 101-4 before closing out the match 78-27.
Ding will next play Poomjaeng, who dispatched Khan 4-1. The Thai won the first frame 98-12 but Khan took the second 77-0. Poomjaeng recovered to take the next three frames 68-20 61-37 and 71-23.
Fu ousted Liang 4-1 in the last eight. Fu won the first frame 58-0 and the second 90-2. Liang bounced back to take the third frame 64-37. But it proved to be the Chinese bet's last hurrah as Fu swept the
next two frames 78-8 71-7.
Fu will take on the winner of the match between Ang and Mehta for a place in the final.
