Panama Trip Suggestions?

I'm planning a trip to Panama...with my elderly mother and nearly teenage daughter. We're hoping to go in the second week of August. Is that a good time..I hear there are monsoons? What should we absolutely see?

ANY suggestions are appreciated!

May-December is rainy season.  It will rain most of the day.

Not knowing your planned length of stay or interests here are some general suggestions:

El Valle: Market & bird watching area

Embera Dura (Indian tribe)

San Blas Islands (absolutely gorgeous but only if you can handle rustic; it's also home to the Kuna Yala indians)

Bocas Del Toro (up-&-coming snorkeling area)

Boquete (mountain area-also jungle canopy line more impressive than El Valle)

Colon Province: portobelo, Gatun locks (at the canal)

In Panama City: the 3 cities tour (old & new PC), taboga island, I forget the name of the restaurant with the traditional dancing)

Whatever you do, try a carimañola.`They were my favorite food during my visit.

In Panama don´t have monsoons and we do´t have hurricane also. In August is raining season but it´s the tropical weather.

In Panama have very beautiful beaches in the Caribbean ocean and the pacific ocean , you have to go to the canal, the old city, shopping is cheaper , we have a lot to do visit if a good place , don´t worry about nothings its a save place.

You will probably find some rain in the afternoon.  The weather is hot and the sun in strong, dress light and use sunscreen.

Other than that, just relax and enjoy.  I think the 3 of you can have fun at Decameron, (2 hours from the city, any travel agent can get you there), all inclusive resort at the Playa Blanca Beach.  Be sure to visit the Canal Museum, at the Casco Viejo and the Panama Viejo Musem at the Old City.  THEN visit the locks, and its Visitor Center, you‘ll understand it much better.

Panama is a shopping paradise, visit Albrook Mall for very cheap shopping.  

You can eat everynight in a great restaurant, we have excelent food.
