Panama is creating shock waves at the XVI Women’s Central American Cup
Panama’s Women’s Volleyball Team outplayed Nicaragua on the second day of the XVI Women’s Central American Cup. They clinched success by posting 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, and 25-18) victory over Nicaragua on Monday, 29th November, 2010. The home team
had a brilliant start in the tournament. They defeated Belize in the opening match of the tournament and continued with success in the battle with Nicaragua on second day. Panama has attained the win-loss record of 2-0. On the other hand Nicaragua had defeated
stronger team of Guatemala in the previous match but they badly failed in front of Panama’s team.
First set
Both sides had good energy after winning their opening matches. Panama’s team enjoyed a great form and was ready to take the challenge. They started off on the right foot. The delivery of powerful serves coupled with heavy spikes earned them an early lead
in the game. They were quick to put the first scores of the game on board but Nicaragua had yet to break the ice. The useful lead of Panama drafted Nicaragua under pressure. However, Lollette Rodriguez opened the fire and helped Nicaragua’s score a little
bit. Claudia Noguera also joined hands with her team-mate and put up a combined effort. Nonetheless, they remained unsuccessful to post a major threat on Panama. The home team continued with same momentum and regularly contributed points to their score. The
support of local fans was an extra advantage for Panama’s team.
Joanna Arroyo was simply on fire. She availed every possible opportunity to hit points and worked out a great performance. The wonderful digging and diving of Panama’s players didn’t leave a choice for Nicaragua to score in the first set. Panama added consecutive
points and dug up success in the first set. They established a score of 25-13 and secure the first set.
Second set
The second set was opened by Panama in the same fashion. The early phase of the game was dominated by home team on account of their convincing play. They produced powerful jump serves and showed off their talent in front of spectators. Jenny Madrid stormed
Nicaragua’s half with devastating spikes. She rolled off the ball in the perfect gaps where the defenders failed to tackle the ball. Amalia Hernandez of Nicaragua fought bravely to save the reputation of her team. She formed an offensive combination with Lollette
Rodriguez and resisted to Panama’s score.  Despite of great effort and countless attack attempts, Nicaragua trailed behind and couldn’t catch up with the speed of Panama. The local ladies sparked once again and handed another set-victory. Nicaragua lost the
set by receiving 25-17.
Third Set
The raged up Nicaragua’s team tried different methods to find their feet in the game. Somehow, they failed to attain the right tone and rhythm to cope with Panama’s heavy hitting. Joanna Arroyo and Jenny Madrid turned many heads around for the stellar performance
in the third set of the game. The exquisite play of both players was praised by everyone present in the match venue. Claudia Noguera of Nicaragua put up great fight and stole some points from Panama. Somehow, victory graced Panama, while Nicaragua lost the
match.
Joanna Arroyo and Jenny Madrid was the main force of Panama’s team. They demonstrated great skills in the game and registered 13 points apiece.
Panama’s Taju commented after the match. She said, “I am very happy with this victory. Nicaragua has good defense and we had to battle hard to win every point.”
The captain of Nicaragua’s, Claudia Noguera acknowledged the better work of Panama’s team. She commented, “The blocking of Panama is pretty good and we couldn’t pass them.”
