Question:

Panama recipe ideas?

We're in 10th grade (2 people group) and we have to cook at school (for our spanish class of 25 people). We got 2 hours and we have to do a traditionnal dish or whatever from panama. Any ideas?

  2. Arroz con coco.Arroz con Pollo.Sancoho.Panamanian style tamales and tortillas.

  3. You can make Arroz con pollo.  All ingredients are easy to find in the USA.  

    Here a link to authentic Panamanian food.  Cuquita Arias is the best.  Look on the top of the page for the word RECETAS and pick what you want.  If you need more help let me know I am a chef.

  4. Flan:

    1 can of Condesed milk

    1 can of evaporated milk

    3 eggs

    2 cups of sugar

    1 tablespoon of vanilla extract

    -cook the sugar until is brown (dark brown)

    -pour it in a oven proof glass container (pirex)immidiatley. slowly move the sugar to cover the whole container.

    -wisk the milks, eggs and vanilla

    -pour the mixture in the glass container

    -bake it in the oven in another container with water (Banio Maria) at 400 degrees for about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

    -Wait until cold to flip it.

    Arroz con Pollo

    -3 chicken b*****s

    -3 cups of rice

    -4 carrots

    -3 celery sticks

    -1 bag of frozen peas

    -3 peppers (Red, Yellow, Orange)

    -Cilantro

    -2 packets Sazon Goya with Achiote

    -Soy Sauce

    -one small can of tomato sauce

    -green olives

    -Cook the Chicken with water and tomato sauce

    -Cook the rice with the diced carrots and pour in the two packets of sazon Goya. Also add salt.

    -Shred the chicken when is ready (dont burn yourself is hot lol)

    -in a big pot put in put in the peas, diced peppers, olives, cilantro, diced celery and add some soy sauce, put a little bit of olive oil and mix it while you cook it..just a little bit.  Then add the rice and the chicken...and it should be ready..

  6. You could make pata cones as a side dish.  they are pretty easy to make, but you need a lot of counter space and a big pan

    4 NOT RIPE plantains (they should be very green)

    cooking oil

    salt

    the best way to peel them is to cut the bottom and top part off, then slice it lengthwise just enough to pierce the peel. you don't want to slice through your entire plantain. when peeling

    then gently peel it back with your fingers.

    you take your plantains (make sure they are very green) and you cut them in about 1 inch slices

    fry them in oil just enough to make them a little soft

    then take them out of the oil, and flatten them out to about half their height.  not too flat, or else they will fall apart.  the bottom of a jar, or the bottom of a can works well to flatten them

    then put them back in the oil and fry until golden and add salt
