Panamanians; Colonize or migrate??

I have a homework assignment that tells me to write an essay on an ethnic group. I chose Panamanians, did the colonize in the US or did they migrate? Why or why not... Due yesterday, already late, please help...

  1. They briefly colonized parts of Virginia and N. Carolina in the 1700's, where they learned tobacco and cotton cultivation, and (ugly, I know) participated in the early slave trade in the colonies.

    Why? The same expansionist mindset that most of the world held at the time.

    However, they were few in number (by this point English colonists starkly outnumbered them) and were run off, back to Panama.

    The new colonists took over their abandoned cotton/tobacco/coffee plantations, pretty much giving them a huge headstart, agriculturally.

    Think about this VERY carefully and realize how unreliable this site can be!

    You might also try refining your question to reflect  when a large number of Panamanians actually DID immigrate to the U.S.
