Panasonic CQ-C1335U CD/RADIO FOR AN AUTO

Question

It says in the instructions to hook the black to ground, the yellow to the battery lead and the red to the acc power lead. I do not have an acc power so I hooked the black wire from the radio to the ground on the battery side and the yellow to the hot side of the battery. The radio will not turn on. The fuse is ok and this radio is new. Any ideas? Thanks
