The tv is about 3 years old. It is connected to Onkyo Reciever via hdmi cable. The onkyo has the cable box, dvdplayer and ps3 connected. Occasionally. the screen goes to all snow but the sound still plays thru the onyko. This happens on the cable box (hdmi to recvr) and the dvd (component to recvr) player.

The picture only goes away for a few seconds and comes back. The sound still plays though. It does it when watching a dvd or cable but dont know if the ps3 has done it.

Anyone see this before? And it doesnt do it regularly, just occansionaly

  1. HDMI is a digital signal, and unlike an Analog signal, it doesn't degrade in quality - it just disappears entirely.

Since you have HDMI from your cable box to the receiver and then HDMI to the TV - and you still get sound when the picture drops, then I would suspect the link between the receiver and the TV is the issue.

I would first check the cable on both ends, make sure it's securely inserted.

If that doesn't fix it, try replacing the cable from the receiver to the TV.

If that does work, connect the cable box directly to the TV via HDMI.

If that works, you know the problem is your HDMI output from your receiver. If your reciever only has one output - replace the receiver.

If wiring the cable box directly to the TV doesn't fix the dropped video, the problem is the HDMI input on your 4 year old TV. If your TV only has one HDMI input - replace the TV.
