How can i covert my Mini dv's to DVD or onto the computer?

Ive tried and tried and tried but it will only take 20 secs each time at at 1:1 ratio.

Im using the USB 2.0 cable. Should I use a firewire cable?

Any free programs that would be good to use?

Stop trying to use USB - it is useless for transferring high quality video - if you use Windows XP (or Vista) you will have a free programme called Windows MovieMaker on your PC that will do the job for you using firewire.
