Panda Express "chow mein" what is it called at other places?

I ordered from Pei Wei the "chow mein" thought it would be the same stuff like at Panda Express..and it wasnt.. it was this nasty soup stuff ..whats it called at other chinese food places?

  1. some places call it lo mein. it differs in different regions of the US. just ask for the soft noodles (if that's what you're talking about).


  2. Chow mein means "pan fried" or "Stir fried" noodles. the ingredients either stir fried together or pour on top after the noodle fried.

    Lo Mein means the noodle is cooked in boiled water, drained, than the ingredient/sauce pour on top of it.

    The noodles could be different types, but really depends on the restaurants.

  3. chow mein (which is crunchy fried noodles) is different from lo mein (which is soft noodles).  

    Plus both those places suck as far as Asian cuisine goes...

  5. I agree with willa. I've noticed chow mein is usually soft noodle on the west coast, and toward the south or east chow mein is crunchy and lo mein is soft. I never heard of ordering chow mein and getting soup though. You should always ask if you're unsure.
