Looking to buy camcorder for my son to take videos to send me via computer. This Pantasonic was recommended Jan'08 Comsumer Reports but don't know if compatible(we both have Macs) or other things needed. Is there a better one for this purpose? I have only seen web site w/ baby movies and you-tube yet imagining something similar to see my grandson walk & talk, maybe small enough they can take it to the beach and chase around after him. thanks!

  1. According to the user manual, acquired from the Panasonic website, it is compatible with Macs.

See page 101 of the guide.

  2. I am also looking into getting a HD camcorder to use in conjunction with my MacBook Pro. I'm looking at the Canon HV20 or HV30.

If you have iMovie 08 or Final Cut Pro (Both video editing software. The iMovie 08 is free with new macs) you will not run into too many issues with this camera. If you dont, I would suggest getting a HD camcorder that uses miniDV tape cassettes. This format will work with iMovie HD with no problems. You will run into similar problems with the HDD (Hard Disc Drive) camcorders as well.

Mac has a list on their support page of specific camcorders that they have tested and work with the iMovie software. That Panasonic is on the list with the computer and software requirements listed next to it.

There is also a lot of other VERY useful information on HD camcorder to Mac compatibility on that page. So make sure you read through it all! :)

    Hope this helps!
