Panther Racing, Chevrolet join hands for 2012 IndyCar Championship – IndyCar news
Panther Racing and Chevrolet have joined hands for technical support for the 2012 IndyCar Championship season.
Chevrolet will provide its Chevy IndyCar V6 power plants to Panther Racing.
Panther Racing Managing Partner and chief John Barnes said, “I just couldn’t be more excited that Chevrolet has decided to return to IndyCar racing and obviously it’s a natural fit for Panther to have Chevrolet powering our cars once again. We’ve got a long
list of race wins and championships together and we’re looking forward to continuing our successful partnership starting in 2012.”
The two-time IZOD IndyCar Series champion has been very successful with Chevy power plants. Both Indy Championships and the 15 Indy Series wins were collected with Chevrolet engines.
The team chief further added that the Chevy is aimed to win races and the team is all about winning. Starting from 2012 season, the team will work to regain its lost altitude in the championship.
Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President for Performance Vehicles and Motorsports said, “As Chevrolet returns to IndyCar competition in 2012 with an all-new twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V-6 engine, we're pleased to renew our longstanding relationship
with Panther Racing.”
Campbell shared his views on the occasion and further added that both Panther Racing and Chevy share the same idea for racing. He said both partners are committed, focused and dedicated to achieve their goals.
Panther’s maiden win in the championship was in the 1999 season with Scott Goodyear. After significant development, the team scored series title in 2001 and 2002.
Panther Racing driver JR Hildebrand also said that he has grown his racing career by looking at the Chevy family.
He also said that the entry of a new manufacturer will be very interesting for the series. In fact, it will be a return for Chevy into the series, he said. The company founder and owner Louis Chevrolet raced in open-wheel racecars in his time.
