Panthers’ tight end Jeremy Shockey doubtful for Lions game – NFL News
Carolina Panthers’ walking wounded list grows as tight end Jeremy Shockey becomes the latest player whose status is being monitored. Suffering from a rib injury, Shockey did not take part in practice on Thursday and his participation
in the game against Detroit Lions in the week 11 game of the National Football League current season is doubtful.
Panthers Coach Ron Riviera however is not giving up hope for Shockey and told reporters after practice that he is “optimistic” the 31-year-old will be available and ready to get on the field against the Lions.
Riviera also said that the Panthers medical team is going to asses Shockey "first thing in the morning."
The Panthers already are faced with the prospect of 12 players on the injured reserve just two short of National Football League record 14 after Mike Goodson was placed on the IR.
Jeremy Shockey has 24 receives and covered 311 yards this season and has scored a single touchdown this season. The veteran tight end has played 130 career National Football League games with 534 receives and scoring 34 touchdowns
in his ten year career starting when he was drafted in 2002 by the New York Giants where he spent six seasons before transferring to the New Orleans Saints in 2007. He signed up for the Panthers in the 2011 off season.
Shockey had one receive during the game against Tennessee Titans in a shocking team performance that saw the Panthers lose 30-3 in game week 10 of the National Football League.
The Panthers have had a rough 2011 season winning just two games of the nine played against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Red Skins with both games at home. The Panthers are currently bottom of the National Football Conference
South with a 2-7 record and will face a physical Detroit Lions side that will be rearing to get back to winning ways after the mauling they received at the hands of the Chicago Bears.
Coach Ron Rivera will be hoping for some good news finally for his side as a Season that started is steadily getting worse as the wear and tear of the Players begins to have a significant impact.
