Pants On Fire’s spectacular win in the Louisiana Derby – Horse Racing Update
Pants On Fire, the son of Jump Start wins the Louisiana Derby while being ridden by a female jockey, Rosie Napravnik. The jockey was showered with attention as she got hold of victory in the Louisiana Derby while she was aboard Pants On Fire. The race was
held on 26 March.
With the one million purses, it is considered as the richest race of the Fair Grounds race course. The race entertains three year olds and is run on dirt and it was held for the 98th time.
Pants On Fire had only a maiden win in seven starts before he won the Louisiana Derby. Kelly Breen who trains the Kentucky bred colt for George and Lori Hall, said that the colt was improving so the trainer decided for him to have a shot at winning. The
colt has two wins in eight career starts.
Napravnik and the horse covered the 1 1-8 miles in an astonishing time span of one hour and forty nine minutes. The jockey managed to outpace the others while struggling through the three quarters of a mile. Pants On Fire got hold of an advantage in the
second turn. Nehro followed in Pants On Fire’s wake but he came second, as he was held off by a neck.
The American jockey has her father in the farming business and has spent most of her life around horses. She got hold of her jockey’s license in 2005. During her career she has had three hundred wins out of one thousand and forty mounts.
Reeves Thoroughbred Racing and Dream Team One Racing Stable’s Mucho Macho Man, was installed as a 9-5 morning line favourite for this race. But he failed to live up to his expectations. The horse met with an unexpected accident as the race began, as he lost
the shoe of his right foreleg. This hampered the horse’s way to success. His trainer, Kathy Ritvo reported that the horse did not do much damage to his right front hoof.
Napravnik through this win became the first lady to take Fair Grounds' biggest race. The jockey who won five races on 26
March and in an interview said, “I'm just honoured to do both. This is the biggest race I've won so far, so it's extremely exciting. I'm not sure where this horse is going next, but hopefully I'll be with him.”
His trainer was not expecting the horse to perform so extraordinarily, as he commented on Pants On Fire’s superb performance by saying “I'm a little bit shell-shocked right now, it's like going to Disneyland. We stamped our ticket. Hopefully the horse comes
out of the race in good order and we'll be on our way to Churchill.”
He sent the horse from Florida as a “rabbit” for Nacho Business. Pants On Fire was stable-mate to Nacho Business, which finished eighth. Both were taken to the Palm Meadows training centre in Florida after the race.
Pants On Fire earned $600,000. This victory enabled the horse to have a position for himself in the Run for the Roses taking place on 7 May and Napravnik intends to ride him. Napravnik was aboard the horse for the first time and with the help of her left
and right handed whips she captured victory.
