Paola Espinosa and Tatiana Ortiz clinch Women's 10m Platform Synchronized gold – Pan American Games
The duo of Mexican divers, Paola Espinosa and Tatiana Ortiz clinched gold medal of Women's 10m Platform Synchronized on day two of the diving events at the 2011 Pan American Games. The session concluded on Thursday, October 27 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Pan American Games are scheduled every fourth year and involves heavy participation of international players.
The Mexican duo impressed the aquatic crowd by dictating terms to their opponents in the final of 10m synchronized discipline. The duo has demonstrated their talent at various international levels including the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Pan American Games and Summer Universiade.
Initially, they obtained a silver medal of 10m platform at the 2007 Pan American Games. Afterwards, their notable efforts placed them on the podium for bronze medal of the same event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Recently, they earned a silver medal of synchronized event at the 2011 University Games in Shenzhen, China.
Ortiz and Espinosa performed considerably well in the final round, where they scored a commendable score of 326.31 points to secure gold medal. They were trailed by Canadian pair of Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion, who remained nearly 8 points behind the Mexican Pair.
The Canadian earned a total of 318.66 points to step on the podium for silver medal. They were chased by Yaima Rosario Mena and Annia Rivera of Cuba, who remained 49.38 points away from overwhelming the efforts of second position holders.
The Cuban divers accomplished a nice total of 269.28 points to seize the podium for bronze medal. They were followed by Amelia Cozad and Amy Whitney Korthauer of United States, who remained almost 12 points behind, accumulating a score of 257.16 points for forth position.
The crowd was stunned with the dominating efforts of the Mexican pair, as Espinosa and Ortiz finished first and second in the individual 10m platform final.
The arena admired breathtaking efforts of all finalists of the 10m discipline while the winners were called on the medal rostrum for their fascinating efforts. In addition, Espinosa and Ortiz expressed contentment on their victory and articulated their desire of continuing the same at higher levels of diving events.
