Paola Suarez wins her 500th doubles career match – Tennis News
Argentine tennis icon, Paola Suarez, registered a milestone in her career on Wednesday, when she won her 500th match of doubles career. She is the only fifth player to achieve that landmark amongst the players playing
currently.
She had earlier retired from the professional circuit but made a return to the Women Tennis Association (WTA) at the start of 2012; pairing up with the beauty queen and doubles specialist from Argentina, Gisela Dulko. Both players
have one thing on their mind at the moment; the London Olympics doubles gold medal.
She didn’t know that she was on the verge of another landmark while playing the match against the Alexandra Dulgheru and Stepahanie Foretz Gacon. After her triumph in that match she stated, “I was surprised when I found out, because
I wasn't even thinking about it. I never thought I won 500 matches. I'm going to enjoy it after today's match with my team. I'm sure it will sink in later!”
Acapulco tournament has ended but when the interview was taken she was still in the hunch for the title so she stated, “Acapulco is my third tournament back and I feel like a player again. The first one felt a little strange, but
now I'm okay. Everyone has been very friendly and has given me a very good welcome. I feel so comfortable on the tour again.”
The other players that are included in the list of winning 500 plus matches and still playing in the doubles category are Lisa Raymond, Liezel Huber, Cara Black and Katarina Srebotnik. The first two players are world number one
doubles team at the moment; has a record of 773-279 and 708-338 respectively. Black has won 656 matches in her career and has faced defeat in 264 whilst Srebotnik leads Suarez by 20 wins but has lost 238 matches compared to just 181 of the Argentine.
Suarez is 35-years-old at the moment but her love for game and Olympic gold has forced her to make a comeback to the tennis circuit. It also has to do with the talks that were held between her and Dulko about their unexpected dream
team for a shot at gold medal.
She is still tough enough to beat several age fellows and will probably look to accomplish a career long dream of winning an Olympic gold. She is proud of achieving this landmark and thanks her fans for their non-stop support at
all platforms.
