The Partenopei skipper is lamenting the mistakes his team is repeating consistently, and still hurt with the defeat to Siena
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paolo-Cannavaro-c29080, has demanded improvement from his side after the defeat against Siena.
Walter Mazzarri’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Tuscan outfit in the first-leg of Coppa Italia semi-final on Thursday, February 9. Napoli have witnessed a poor run of recent form, which has seen them remain winless
in five of their last six matches.
The Partenopei side has been criticised for repeating the same mistakes time and again, and Cannavaro believes that the team should impose pressure on the opposition from the start of the match. The Azzurri skipper believes that
there is no problem with the tactical plan of the manager or the commitment of the players, and the poor form is just to do with the mistakes they have been making.
While talking to the reporters, Mazzarri said,
“What happened yesterday has been happening in the last few games. We are punished for our first error, then we force the play and take risks and we cannot overturn the result. There is no lack of effort or tactical problems, we
are penalised by such episodes. The first half was not inspiring, across we faced 11 players possessed, then they dropped in the second half and closed in around the penalty area. We need to start games differently.”
The Italian feels bad for the fans, but insists that the team has achieved a lot in the previous two years, so they deserve to be backed by the supporters in this tough time. The 30-year-old has urged his teammates to improve their
performances and get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.
“I understand the current situation [with unhappy fans], but in two years we have done so much that this month cannot delete it."
After an impressive 2010/11 season where they finished 3rd in the league, they have struggled to repeat the performances in the ongoing campaign. The Partenopei side is lying in the 7th spot with 31 points
from 22 matches played so far.
Napoli will take on Chievo Verona in their next game on Monday, February 13.
