Paolo Lorenzi, Gianluca Naso enter the second round – ATP ORBETELLO Challenger 2011
Number five seed Paolo Lorenzi defeated Federico Del Bonis 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 on Tuesday to book his place in the second round of 2011 ORBETELLO Challenger Series in Orbetello, Italy.
The Italian tennis-pro looked in top form in a match that lasted for nearly 2 hours on the red surface. Despite losing the first set, Lorenzi kept his focus on the game and clinched the following two sets to seal an emphatic victory.
Ranked 141st in the Association of Tennis Professional ranking, Lorenzi looked a bit out of sorts as the match started. He committed a large number of unforced errors in the opening to let his opponent take control of
the situation. Despite receiving several break chances during the opener, he was unable to convert any of them. The Italian continued to struggle with his shots and soon found himself in a very difficult situation at 5-3, requiring a break of serve to stay
in the set.
His opponent, Del Bonis concentrated on his own game play and made most of the opportunities that were presented to him. Holding on to his crucial fourth service game, the Argentine pocketed the opening set to put himself in the
driving seat.
Trailing the set score 1-0, Lorenzi needed a very special performance to earn victory in the match. Producing his best game play, he managed to overcome his opponent in the next two set. The Italian broke the serve twice in the
second set to earn an impassable 5-2 lead and then claimed four successive points on his next service game to even the set score 1-1.
Lorenzi continued to play hi natural game with freedom in the final set as well. Having put his opponent under extreme pressure, he dashed his gorgeous forehand and backhand winners all over the court. Firing an astonishing serve
ace, he made two match points available to himself and then converted the first one to ensure his place in the next round Challengers tournament.
Lorenzi’s well directed and on-target serves in the last two sets played a big part in deciding the outcome of the match.
In another match at the ATP tournament, Gianluca Naso of Italy eased past Spanish tennis pro Javier Marti 7-6 (6), 6-1 to move ahead.
Naso made a slow start to the match as he took some time to settle down. Both player broke one another once in the opening set as it went into a tie-breaker. Showing amazing temperament and clay court skills, Naso clinched the
tie-breaker to dent his opponent’s confidence levels.
Consolidating, the Italian raised the level of his game even further in the second set and dropped only a game to close out the match.
