Paolo Lorenzi knocks out Joshua Milton in opening round bout – IPP Open 2011 CH
Ranked world No.110, Paolo Lorenzi, Italian and former world No.83, played his opening round fixture of IPP Open 2011, against the lucky loser entry, Joshua Milton, 22-year-old from Britain, beating him out in straight set, 6-4,
6-4, in an hour and twenty eight minutes on hard indoor court rallying on Wednesday, 23rd of November at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
It was clear that the two were well differentiated in ranking that became a solid reason for the Italians easy straight set win. Milton, on the other hand, got a second chance as he entered the main draw as a lucky looser; however,
his skills were not compatible to that of the Frenchman.
With the two walking down the blue circuit, both continued with the pre-match warm-up and the service toss. Brit world No.378 won the toss and took his side to serve the first game of the opening set. Turning down the scoreboard,
1-0, Milton switched the serve as Lorenzi followed the Brit rival with his first win of the set evening up the scores, 1-1.
29-year-old flared up the set as he broke the lower ranked 22-year-old on his serve, game three, and led the table 3-1. Continuing with his serve next, game four, Lorenzi pocketed another game, 3-1, and stood to return again. Milton
followed with a winner, however, was unable to break back and cut the lead, 2-3.
Maintaining his concrete lead, Lorenzi kept on bagging service games and led to conclude the opening set winning 6-4, to lead the set 1-0.
Moving on with set two, Milton came up strong as he swirled away with the first game of the second set of the match, and served out a triple game point winner to lead the table, 1-0. Following the 22-year-old, Italian captured
his first win of the set evening up the scores at 1-1.
Carrying on the two bagged games of respective serves and levelled up again at 2-2, 3-3 and then at 4-4 before the higher ranked Italian made his final move of the match. Breaking his Brit rival, Lorenzi pulled off win of game
nine, 5-4, and went on to serve for the match.
As spectacular as it could get, the 29-year-old punished his young rival with a triple match point winner concluding the fixture winning the second set 6-4, and in straight sets. Making his way to the second round of the ATP Challenger
Tour event, Lorenzi moves on to play against Daniel Brands of Germany for the semis spot.
