Pap smear question........?

To the people who have been given birth control without a pap smear OR PELVIC exam, how did that happen? I've been on BC for 16+ years, and have ALWAYS been given a pelvic/pap before given pills even at Family Planning. I know that a pap smear looks for cervical cancer, which is caused by HPV which is a sexually transmitted disease...how did you get pills without an exam? Just curious....

  1. I am surprised to hear people can get any birth control with out an exam. For pills they need to check your hormone levels so an exam is needed. There are other forms of birth control you can use besides pills. After the first visit the doc will give you some pills to try as a sample. I have never heard of no exam no pills, is this place legit?

  2. This situation is not me personally,

But here in Maryland at the Family Planning centers, getting the birth control without a pelvic exam is an option you can choose.

They just prescribe you the pills that fit your needs.

  3. Ya know Miss Moon, I have been wondering that myself. What a good question. Thanks

  4. forcing you to have a pap or pelvic in order to get the pills is just a way for them to ensure that you get the pills.  except for perhaps a pelvic for the first time you ever get pills, to make sure everything is normal, these exams have nothing to do with bc pills.  they are completely independent.  and no, they don't check your hormone levels before they give you pills.
