Papa Diaga Dia shines as Senegal routs Chad 92-54 in 2011FIBA Africa Championship for Men
Centre Papa Diaga Dia shined with a game winning double-double that helped Senegal in routing Chad 92-54 in a Group-B game of the 26th FIBA Africa Championship for Men at the Palais des Sports Antananarivo, Madagascar.
With this game Senegal completed their quota of group games.
Senegal grasped the top position in their group by winning all their games. Senegal will now progress into the Eight Final round along with the other successors of the preliminary round, where they will face the host Madagascar.
Both teams started off sluggishly and remained almost head to head in the first quarter. After skirmishing for the lead in most part of the period, Senegal eventually manage to squeak past Chad in the ensuing minutes of the quarter
and seize the first frame in their favour by 12-11 advantage.
Senegal came tearing out of their exhausting suits in the second quarter and pressed the paddle hard that gave them the burst to leave Chad behind. Senegal outperformed Chad by a taking a 13-point lead with their 22-10 burst. As
the teams went into the locker for halftime, Senegal led Chad by 34-21.
The break didn’t affect the impetus of Senegal, as they carried the same groove into the third quarter that left Chad unanswered. Senegal made the aggression after the break and scorched Chad’s defense with their excellent offensive
skills. Senegal outshined Chad with their 29-13 sprint that dented the spirits of Chadians pretty badly and from there onwards they started fading away.
Senegal led Chad by 63-34 advantage into the final quarter of the game. Senegal wiped out what was left of the Chadian squad in the fourth period and their ferocious assault continued that kept on drilling in the defenses of Chad.
This left just a skeleton behind, when Senegal finished their mugging that involves another 29 points during the quarter, while Chad did bit better, but it was never enough to trouble the team Senegal, which ended up winning the game with a huge margin of
38-points.
Dia was exciting to watch, as he thumped game-high 31 points together with 10 rebounds and three assists that gave Senegal victory by a huge margin of 38 points. His remarkable precision earned him 85.7 percent shooting rate from
the field and 70 percent from the charity stripe, during his 29 minutes stay on court.
His team-mates Mouhammad Faye and Mohamet Diop supported him well with healthy contributions 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Bienvenu Djimassal was the top contributor from Chad, he made 15 points, clutched six rebounds, catered one assist and made two steals. Richard Moguena and Abderamane Mbaindiguim posted 10 points apiece for Chad. However, these
contributions were not enough to stop Senegal from defeating them.
