The Greek international has penned a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit that will keep him at the club at least until 2016, and ended the speculation that he will move to English Premier League giants, Manchester United.

The young prodigy earned himself a regular spot in the team after joining the Royal Blues in 2010 from Greek side Olympiakos. He has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs after impressing both at club and country.
The star player interestingly rejected a big money transfer to Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg in the summers.
The no-nonsense defender was instrumental in his side’s road to Champions League semi-finals in 2011 which they eventually lost to Manchester United 6-1 on aggregate. However, he helped them win the 2011 DFB-Pokal cup. The centre-back
insisted that he loves the club and is happy to prolong his career with them.
The 20-year-old stated that he is relishing playing for the German side for some time. He also achieved a DFL-Supercup medal with the team in 2011. Recently, he faced his former club Olympiakos and put in a great performance to

"I feel very well in Schalke and look forward to playing for the club for many years to come," he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The youngster was speculated to link up with Manchester United in June during the 2012 European Championships but nothing came off that, although he said that he was honoured to be on the radars of such a big club.
However, United will not end their pursuit of the talented player and might make a move for him in a few years.
Papadopoulos has played over 50 games for Schalke and has three goals to his credentials. He also has 15 caps for his national team.
