The Werder Bremen defender is keen to end the season in the top-four and admits that the side has enough quality to fulfil the dream.
Die Werderaner started the last season brilliantly and were in the top-four at the end of the first-half of the season, but the performances dipped in the second-half of the campaign and the side only managed to end in ninth place.
Thomas Schaaf’s side failed to qualify for the UEFA Europa League as Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 booked their place to the second-tier European competition.
However, the former Bundesliga champions have been busy this summer in strengthening their squad for the upcoming campaign and have certainly made some quality additions to the team. The club has brought in the likes of Nils Petersen,

Papastathopoulos claimed that the club’s main aim should be to qualify for Europe at the end of the campaign. He admitted that the Europa League would be a realistic approach, but has insisted that Bremen have a tradition of playing
in the Champions League which should be brought back.
The side will face some tough competition from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 to achieve the feat which looks highly unlikely.
“This year, we have really got to qualify for the Europa League, but in my opinion, Werder should be playing in the Champions League, at least given its history,” the defender was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Greek international has committed his future, at least for next season, and is confident that the side will have a breakthrough campaign next term.
“I will certainly be staying in Bremen this year and I will do my bit for the team. But I cannot yet say what happens next year,” he concluded.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos made 12 appearances for Werder Bremen in all competitions last season and is tipped for a starting role at the club in the upcoming league campaign. The defender is currently on-loan at the Weserstadion
from AC Milan.
