  1. The benefits I see are:

    1.  Inexpensive.  Waste paper is usually available for free.

    2.  Flexible.  It can be created with a variety of methods and use many different additives.  It can be self supporting, or be used on a framework.

    3.  Takes paint well.

    4.  Environmentally Friendly.  Take some ugly trash and make something that looks cool?  What could be better?

Sadly, my artistic talents are rather laughable.  I do appreciate good art though.

My personal interest is more in using waste paper in building construction.  Papercrete can have a wide variety of mix recipes.  The best place on the internet to learn and share information about it is Papercreters:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/papercrete...

While Papercreters has a lot of construction enthusiasts, there are a lot of artists using papercrete and are part of that free group.  You have to actually join the group before you can see the pictures that people have posted though.  The group's moderators are very active in preventing any spam from polluting the group too.

  2.   My opinion - the benefits are boundless

someone with arthritis could benefit from using  a warm medium to help with flexibility - the mind would be stimulated by forming the shape and knowing what to do or experimenting with forms to convey their perception of the object being formed - some people (young and old) would  be introduced to a new art form - just the pure joy of knowing that you used your own hands to make something pretty or interesting or just something only you liked

The list could go on and on -

I am at this time in the process of listing the projects that I would like to make with a paper medium - but I am looking for the correct portions or recipe for mixing a batch of papercrete ( a medium that when cured can last for years against the weather outside).

  3. benefits?

    art is its own excuse

    but seriously,

i love to make paper mache objects.

    First, it dries overnight

    so its kinda quick

second, it is easy to mold, EASy

third, you can paint it and glue tings on it

fourth, easy to lift, very light weight

    fifth, doesn't easily break

sixth, the materials are easy to get, a good way to recycle, reuse what would otherwise go in the dump

    seventh benefit?

    its fun
