Paper or Plastic?

Question

Every day there's a reason to either go with one or the other at the store. What do you think is better and why?

Please serious answers only.

I'm really curious what the pro's and con's are.

Paper, if you promise to recycle it and reuse it. And deforestation is not "unreversable" we can plant more trees. So if you're really worried about it, plant a bunch of trees to make up for the ones you're cutting down when using paper.

But the best option overall is reusable tote bags. They hold more, last WAY longer, and look cooler too! It's the best by far.

I think plastic is better if you use it responsibly and recycle. Paper bags are adding to deforestation which is irreversible!

I'd say neither.  A lot of stores are selling reusable grocery bags nowadays. You can buy them elsewhere too, any tote will do.  

Both require energy intensive processes in their manufacture.   Both require oil.  So if you must choose between the two, then choose whichever one you like better because both choices suck.  ( :
