Papiss Demba Cisse: A revelation for SC Freiburg – Bundesliga profile
The sensational Senegal-born striker Papiss Demba Cisse has been a revelation for SC Freiburg ever since he joined the club in 2009. The player had an outstanding 2010/11 campaign but unfortunately couldn’t lead his side to any silverware.
The lack of silverware ensured that the attacker wanted a move away from the club. Several top European sides seemed interested in acquiring the services of Senegal international but none could meet the player’s asking price. The Freiburg sensation, therefore,
opted to spend another season with the club with ambition of achieving something meaningful. Breisgau-Brasilianer, manager Marcus Sorg, has repeatedly hailed the striker for his untiring services and also expressed delight when it was confirmed that the striker
is going to stay for yet another season.

impress the officials. As a result, the Senegal international managed only seven league appearances bagging a solitary goal in return.
In 2005, the player received a surprise call to represent a French football club FC Metz. Cisse gleefully accepted the offer and with the passage of time began to show improvement in his individual game play. He soon became an integral part of Les Grenats
squad and won thousands of hearts before making a difficult decision of leaving the club. There he made 71 league appearances netting 25 goals in return during his four-year stay.
During his time at Metz, the striker was sent out on a yearlong loan to another French club AS Cherbourg in 2005. There also he made a huge impact and became an inspirational figure amongst the fans. He appeared in 26 games and scored a respectable 11 goals.
He stayed there until 2006 before making a move back to Metz.
Cisse was then again loaned out to yet another French side LB Chateauroux in 2008 and managed to get a return of four goals from 15 league appearances. He was eventually called back to the Metz squad and stayed at the club until 2009.

This achievement made Cisse a first team starter for Freiburg and he appeared in each of their games last season. Of the 32 league that the Senegalese took part in, he scored in 22 of them earning himself the honour for being the second highest goalscorer
during the 2010/11 season; Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez topped the charts with 28 goals.
Cisse also became the first ever African player to have scored as many goals in a single Bundesliga season. The player earned EFFIFU award for being the most efficient striker in the league, leaving behind the likes of his Bayern Munich counterpart, Gomez.
