It was Samoa’s second game of the day after their victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fiji-c2897.
Papua’s team won the toss and opted to bat first. The start was marvellous as the openers, Asad Vala and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tony-Pala-Ura-c94235, flexed their muscles to build up a long partnership of 112 runs. Vala scored 65 off 45 balls with the help of 7 boundaries while Ura made 69
from just 37 deliveries including 11 fours and 1 six.
The hard-hitting at the start of the innings broke the morale of the Samoa bowlers.
After the fall of the opening pair, the rest of the batting line-up of Papua proved to be http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahuru-Douglas-Dai-c73905, Jason Kila, and, Vani Morea in the middle-order,
were bowled out for 12, 0, and, 2 respectively.
These wickets could not cause any http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Griffith-c919 damage to the Papua side, as their innings had already been consolidated by the openers.
In the death overs, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rarva-Dikana-c84041, scored 10 and 11 not out respectively.
Thus at the end of the 20 overs, Papua New Guinea had 182 for 6 wickets with an excellent run rate of 9.10 per over.
In the bowling line-up of Samoa, Faasao Mulivai, and, Sean Cotter, grabbed two wickets each while Faavae Faaofo, and, Tiafala Alatasi, bowled one player each.
To meet the mammoth target of 183 runs, Samoa started in a pathetic way as their top four batsmen could not make double figures.
In the middle-order, Faaofo and Uala Kaisara, strived to make 16 and 29 respectively. When the pair fell, the prospects of Samoa’s defeat became clear.
None of the remaining batsmen could score 10. Thus the Samoa side was reduced to 105 runs for 9 wickets in the given 20-over spell.
Among the bowlers of Papua New Guinea, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Boge-Reva-c67425, and, Rarva Dikana walked away with 1 wicket each.
After winning the game, Papua New Guinea reached the top of the points table with 4 points. They beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vanuatu-c3038 by 38 runs in their tournament opener earlier today, July 4, 2011.
