Is there a known relationship between the diameter of a parachute hole and the drag coefficient of the parachute?

  1. I'm sure there is a function out there to find the value.

    the real reason for the hole in the top of a round parachute is to allow some of the air to spill out of the top.  without the hole the air would have to spill out of the sides of the round parachute and that would result in a swinging motion making it very difficult and dangerous for the parachutist to land under.

    now that we rectangular parachutes are used by skydivers and some parts of the military we have a wing above our heads with very different flight characteristics.
