Can you help us? We fill my bird "Buddy" water everyday, and over night, idk what happens but in the morning, it has 2 centimeters of water left in it. Mostly every night. We know parakeet cant drink that much in one day. Also the newspaper wasnt wet. Finally the towel we put over him dosent feel wet. Do you know what is happening? Please help if you have any suggestions or answwers. Thank you.

  1. He may be bathing early enough in the night or early enough in the morning that the paper has had time to dry. Just keep filling his water, I doubt he's hurting or anything. If you're really concerned, pick a weekend to camp up all night and watch it. See what he does at night, just don't disturb him too much. you can listen to ruffling, etc. At night they usually crash and sleep, so my only thought is that at some point he's bathing when you aren't watching :).

Make sure it doesn't have a leak, other than that, he should be just fine. :) Stay up one night and watch him if you're concerned.

  2. does sunlight ever get into the cage? it might be evaporating. my parakeet's water container leaks from the middle onto the newspaper below when i over fill it, but if you say yours is dry, then idk! maybe put less water in the dish each day, but enough so your paraket wont get too thirsty. ;)

  3. The water could be evaporating because there is no way that the Buddy can drink that much.  The water is probably just evaporating quickly.  What you could try doing is putting the bird in something else for the night or for the day and then see what the water does.  If the water is gone then you know it's not the bird but if the water is still there then you should probably take the bird to the vet for excessive water drinking.

    I hope I helped!
