my mom has 2 birds, the female is older and lays eggs all the time, the male is about a year or so, and takes really good care of her. he feeds her and has s*x with her, but the eggs never hatch, they get broken and go bad, how do i know if its been hit with the male sperm? she has a nest for the eggs, and they use it all the time, but no birdies... what do you think could be wrong, is it timing? im confused,

  1. You can candle the eggs when they are laid. (hold a flashlight up to the egg and if there are blood vessels visible then it's fertile. otherwise it's a dud). If the eggs are fertile, leave them, if they're not, take them out. She will not produce more eggs once her clutch is complete (usually 4-6 eggs, laying one every other day) and if you leave the duds, she will stop laying.

The male might be too young to be producing sperm, i had the same problem with my cockatiels. The male also might be an idiot and keep missing his target. The female can store the sperm in her for over a week and it stay viable, so it is probably the male who's shooting blanks.

If the eggs are not being sat on, they will not hatch. There must be the right amount of humidity in the room as well. Too dry and the chicks won't hatch; the egg will dry out, and vise versa.

  2. Most your birds dont even produce eggs and sperm till they are in thier p*****n or teen years and older. Are you even sure that your younger bird is male. Also some birds such as the Budgies(parakeets) get excited and impatient waiting for thier babies to hatch and sometimes will break the egg early. My best advice to you is remove the egg as soon as layed.
