Question:

Parakeet breeding question?

my male and female show all the signs of courtship. (he feeds her, they preen each other, he "dances" for her, sings for her...all that). will the male ever try to actually MATE with her? i have a nesting box in there, they are over a year old, so they are old enough. i have a bunch of different foods, and a little bath in there to encourage breeding. i had a bunch of other parakeets in their aviary, but i took the others out in hopes of getting them to breed, they didn't really get along anyways. i took them out about one or two weeks ago. the aviary is pretty big, above the basic guidelines for space for breeding parakeets. i realize this is very long, haha but could you just help me out? thanks.

  1. well its good that you gave them space. and if the male is doing what u say, then i would say give them a month or two. putting a toy near the box is a good idea (the toy should be a shredding one..this will encourage them to prepare making a nest in the box) one you set this up, try putting paper in the box and let them shred it.

**i have parakeets, and i am breeding two of them. This is what the vet advised me to do**

  2. yes they will mate eventually, then they will start shredding paper and gathering material for the nest
