A budgie is an English (as in britain or england) parakeet (sometimes people just call a parakeet a budgie!)

    hope this helps!

  2. Myra below is right.

  3. all budgies are parakeets, but not all parakeets are budgies. cockatiels are also parakeets. some mutations of budgies are parakeets some scientists call conures parakeets too. pretty much all small birds with generally long tail feathers are known as parakeets.

its like you can seperate parrots in to two groups: the parrots, and the parakeets (keet meaning small)

so it is unwise to call a budgie a parakeet because people might think your meaning this:

  4. Parakeets are also known as "American budgies" it has a smaller body frame than english budgies, they have more varieties of color than the english budgies too. While English  the chest are more broader and prominent, it has very limited in colors. And based on some market research English budgies are more expensive than parakeets.

According to some breeders it is possible to cross breed the  English budgies x Parakeets to improve the size of parakeets. It is also sells in much higher price than the ordinary parakeets while the English budgies become the most expensive among the three. And it is called budgiekeets (english budgies + parakeets).
