Parakeet help???

I live in Texas and we have had 15 consecutive days of 100* and it will be 100 tomorrow. I am having a garage sell and will be sitting in there. Is it ok to bring my birds outside to sit too or will it be too hot? I just didnt want to leave them alone in the house until 3-4pm. I know to spray them if it gets too hot. I have never let them go out before but thought that since I will be out there they might enjoy it too. Please help....and only answer if you have birds. Thanks!!

  1. no it will be too hot.  I lost my 7 yr old last month. The air condition was on in the house (not central) but did not get down to the back room where he was enough. It was 96 out.  when I got home he was just laying there.  I sprinkled water on him,but he died 20 min. later.  Please leave them in a cool not cold room. they will be better off.

  2. As a pet owner (3 parakeets) I do not expose my animals to other people that I do not know you will have alot going on and will not be able to watch everything all at once. I would be afraid that someone would open the cage and they would get away.  Also My birds are now very used to the airconditioning and I would be afraid of heat stress.  People who don't have animals think it is fine to let their kids do what they want to others animals Like touching your fish, riding your dog they don't stop to think they could be scaring the amimal if the birds would bite a two year old finger how might the parent respond? Not the birds fault but some people are very inconsiderate.

  3. keep them in the shade not direct sun, and make sure they stay hydrated, they will be fine. =)

  4. o would jsut let your parakeets out periodically because they are all small and they can only take so much heat outside let them stay outside for 30 misn and put them in the hosue for an 1 and deep doing that and they will be fine, we jsut had a garage sale and that is what i did with my parakeet too !!

  5. i think they will be fine.....put them in a shaded spot not in the direct sun light.  and like you said spray them down every now and then.......depending how long you are going to be outside, you might not want to keep them out there the whole time.......my parakeet has passed but i use to sit his cage out in the yard for a couple hours during the summer and i live in the city where it is much more humid than Texas....my in laws live in Texas so i know the difference of the heat between Texas and Philly

  6. it will be ok if she is the the shade, also bring a little bottle of water u can mist on her if she is getting to hot. A hot parakeet opens her wings and breathes really hard and "pants". check out www.parrotcentral.net for good bird info
