Parakeet is breathing heavy?

I work in a bookstore and 3 weeks ago the owner bought 2 budgies (male and female). So far they have seemed very happy. About 2 days ago the female started breathing heavily and is staying low on her perch. They are molting but the male seems to be taking it fairly well. Also I've been trying to introduce new things in their diet, is she reacting to stress?

  1. your bird may have a respiratory infection. The air sac may have an inflammation. For now, keep him warm with a light shining on his cage. Make sure he can get away fromthe light if he gets too warm. You can put his cage in a room with a vaporizer on it over night. This may help some, but you will need to take him to the vet. Things like this can get bad quickly.good luck and best wishes

  2. This sounds like much more than stress.  Your little bird really needs to be evaluated by an avian vet.  Until you are able to get her to one, place a heating pad under half of the cage set to "medium" heat.  Cover that portion of the cage.  This way she'll be able to keep warm but can move off the heat if she is too warm.

Please get her to an avian vet as soon as you can.
