Parakeet!!!?

hey everyone!

my brother just got a parakeet! we are all so excited...we have a mirror, food, water, a ladder with 2 sitting perches, one of those nail perches thing that helps trim the nails by them just sitting on it, some balls hanging on the ceiling, and some weird chewy thing! but now...here is my question...do any of you know any strange or interesting facts about parakeets that no one knows about? like for instince, i found out that bunnies love watching tv...which i never tried out but it supposidly works! i also found out that parakeets love color and can eat cake icing..is all this true...any other special toys we can put in there? and other facts...thanks so much!

Take the perch that trims nails, out.

Those are very dangerous as they can tear open the bottom of your parakeet's feet.

Terrible fate, really.

They are likely to try to get into cake icing, but it's bad for them and they don't know that.  But they do like colors, and in fact like people, depending on the individual bird, prefer some colors over others.

I don't think you're likely to find a fact that no one knows about (because then how would anyone know it?), but something I think is really interesting is that they can sleep with one eye open as a way of watching for predators while resting.

my sister has a parakett and has owned two in the past and i have owned 3 in the past. i am just warning you take good care of them and dont buy bird burritos.  bird burritos are attached buy string and hang from the cage. my bird hung herself that and died. dont buy anything that hangs from string. it all depends on the breed of the parakeet. here are some sites to help determine ur question:

cake icing is not good for your parakeet.  In fact no sweet  people food is good for them.  Concentrate on getting your bird to eat fruits, veggies, cooked eggs, and cheese.

well, one weird thing that ive seen a few budgies do is when there too attached to their owner, they see the owners hand as a mate ._.
