Parakeet???

My Parakeet laid an egg about 4 weeks ago. Since then she has laid a total of 6 eggs. Is this normal? I have been leaving the eggs in there with her. When does the breeding season stop? One of the eggs she actually pecked at it until it broke. I took that one out.

  1. I would consider 6 eggs within a month excessive, but I'm not a parakeet expert. You will need to supplement her calcium in her diet as excessive egg laying causes calcium depletion! In the worst case she can die of egg binding.

I recommend talking to your avian vet to make sure she's healthy and removing anything from her cage that is causing her to get broody (e.g., dark nest-like places, too much light, not enough sleep, etc).

Some birds will also continue laying eggs if you take their eggs away. Talk to your avian vet about whether you should remove the eggs, leave them or replace them with fake eggs in order to stop her from laying more. Also ask the vet about her diet.

If she looks in any way like she's in distress, is having trouble passing an egg, is panting, etc, get her to the vet immediately!

    Good look!

  2. just let her take care of them.

with domestic birds, there is no breeding season.

she will know what to do.

    just buy her:

    cuttle bone

    pine shavings[unscented]

and when the babies hatch, DONOT handdle them until they are 6 weeks old.

when there are 8 weeks old, put them in a seperate cage, BIG seperate cage...

or just sell them to a petstore for 10$ each(:

    haha
