Parakeet question???

when I got the parakeets from a breeder, he told me the green one is a female and the blue one is a male... but now I am having doubts... because the green one is always playing around with the blue one... here's a video of it...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qb5y6p0xcpA

and nowadays they have started to fight...well only the green one starts the fight... the blue one kind of backs off and doesn't do anything... this is why I doubt the green one could be the female... I did separate them, and they do get back together and play around... so i got no questions about that...

the only thing i need to figure out is which one is the male and which one's the female... please help..

  1. They are having fun, aren't they?  They are playing, though, not courting.

I can't tell the s*x of them.  It may be that they are too young to be easy to tell.  An experienced breeder can probably make a good guess even when they are young, but might be wrong.

When they get old enough, the male will have a blue or purple cere, the female will have a pink or brown or white cere.  That's the thing at the top of the beak with the nostrils in it.

I have one budgie that kept changing cere color, so I didn't find out what her gender was until she was 7 years old and laid an egg!  But that is rare.  Usually you can tell the difference within a few months or at most by a year old.

Female parakeets can be aggressive, in fact any of them can, so you can't tell gender by that.

  2. I can't see the color on their nostrils either.  If you have one with pink or brownish/tan that's your female...If it's bluish in color it's a male.  When they are very young it's difficult to tell them apart.  The color of it's nostril will change to tell you male or female when they get a little older.

  3. They look very happy and the cage is an excellent cage! From the looks of it, I can't tell you which one is which , but I can explan it.

FEMALE: The female will have a brownish//tan cere (skin patch located just above the beak)

MALE: The male will have a bluish or purple cere.

  4. I THINK THE BREEDER IS RIGHT

  5. KAY BUDDY.... thats bullspit... im a budgie expert, the color of the budgies feathers dosent mean anything its there cere ( the colord thing aboth their beaks) if its blue its a male, if its pink its a female, or brown its a female.. and violet means  maletoo, you can easily tell. that breeder is full of himself.
