Ive had my two keets for about 6 months now and they still arnt very tame. now that its summer i have more time on my hands to spend with them. I came up with a plan to try to tame them faster. Each morning when they are hungry i hand feed them a healthy treat thing and i hold it just out of their reach to encourage them to come to me to get it. Then i feed them a tablespoon of reagular pellet food from my hand. Whatever they dont eat i put in a food cup. I repeat this in the evening. Is this too cruel? i read that parakeets need at least two tablespoons of food a day. so i figured by hand feeding them i can tame them. I talk to them alot when they are eating too and i slowly bring them out of the cage when they are perched in my hand eating. Is this too cruel? not leaving food in their cage 24/7? Will my taming technique work?

  1. It should work. It may not be enough food, though.  Give them some for the middle of the day, too.
