  2. Usually you can just google parakeets and it will come up with many sites but I prefer print sources more than anything. I highly reccomend you pick up a recent copy of Bird Talk as well as this years annual issue of Birds USA. They are both very informative print sources and are very reliable(often the articles written in them are by certified avain vets, nutrionists, and so on. If you were just looking into getting parakeets as a first companion bird or your just planning on getting them I would be glad to offer up some advice if you want it especially care.....

Budgies, Budgerigars, and parakeets are all used to refer to a small Australian parrot called Budgerigars. There natural wild color is primarily green with wing stripes of black but nowadays they come in blues, whites, greens, mixes, albinos, lutinos, and many others. They have basic needs like any other bird but as a living ting they deserve a family that is willing to put up with a bird and all of its quirks that come with it eg vocalizations, behaviors, ect..

Cage: One solo housed parakeet can be kept in a cage with minimum dimensions of 20L X 12W X 18H But bigger is definitely better and i urge you to get a cage with dimensions of 30L X 20W X 20H or above and beyond that. This cage will allow flight which is good for respiratory health or if you bird is clipped it will give it plenty of room for toys( 3 minimum) , and to climb around and play. When purchasing a cage, I also recommend getting a square or dome top cage with a seed guard as birds by nature are somewhat messy flinging feathers, waste, and food outside the are aof the cage.

Food: Now since the parakeet will be living indoors and not in its wild habitat you will be solely responsible for its nutrition. Organic pelleted diets are the best but anything with no artificial colors or smells would be healthy. I feed EXACT organic pelleted food to my lovebird and I can tell you, you can really tell the difference. To supplement the staple you should offer high quality organic or regular greens and fruits that are darkly colored(more nutritious) Do not feed avocado, alcohol, sugar, salt, fatty foods, or caffeine. These may KILL the parakeet. Also I feed sprouts, high quality human grade nuts(usually chopped almonds, walnuts),quinoa (type of rice),sprouts, and whole wheat breads.

Clean water from tap or spring should be offered twice a day minimum to avoid bacteria and pathogens.

This is just basic care I will also include links to helpful sites!
