Parakeet what to do?

I've had my pet parakeet Piper for about 5 weeks. Her wings are unclipped and I get get her to somewhat get on my finger when I say up and push against her lower body lightly. She response barely to when I call her Piper and more to Pretty Bird.

Also I have her almost every day in the pc room in my parents house with me. Listening to music as I talk to her and play on the pc. Is this a bad idea being that there are 5 tall windows. three to the left where Piper can see outside and 2 to the right. with me the desk and the pc being between piper's cage and the two right windows. should I not do this?

  1. do not clip the wings!

its kinda cruel to birds and they are more happy when they can fly!

  2. Well are the windows open with no screen? Cause then it can fly out lol. It's ok for you to have it by the window but just try and make sure the parakeet isn't in direct sunlight because it can get too hot for them. Try not to move your parakeet's location too much because they get comfortable in a certain setting. When they get moved it could be hard for them to adjust (especially if this is done on a daily basis). Designate an area for the parakeet that stays the same. They get excited with music but make sure it's not too loud. Keep trying to get it to sit on your finger. It can take a while but eventually it will get comfortable. You could try to put food on your hand and feed them cause that will help it get more comfortable with you. My parakeets didn't really get that comfortable until I started leaving the cage open for them to fly around. when they were closed up in the cage they were always scared but when i started leaving the cage open, they could come out on their own and became wayyy friendly. And you don't have to keep their wings clipped! It's your choice. My parakeets have full flight wings and they fly around freely. Obviously common sense works here cause don't leave doors open, etc. When they first start flying around u have to watch them too to make sure u train them where they're allowed to go. Anyway good luck!

  3. It's fine for Piper to look out the window but only when she is in the cage. If you let her out to fly in the room, cover the windows and any mirrors otherwise she can fly into them and hurt or kill herself.

    Hope I helped

  4. try not to keep birds near electronics, it freaks them out.

TV and stuff is alright, but next to a PC all day, probably not,

And its fine to leave Piper near a window, but make sure that after about a month and a half you can get her onto your hand and out of the cage.

AND GET HER WINGS CLIPPED, you don't want her flying away.

  5. I think, it is probably ok, just as long as she doesn't freak out and fly and hit against the cage...if she gets a bad reaction when u r inbetween her and the window, you could either try to get her used to it, or stop...

And, it's fine if she responses to pretty bird...i got my keets from someone who had them for two years and they don't response to their names...mine sort of **** their heads...but, one likes to be called "Princess" and the other one likes to be called "beautiful" and "exotic girl" so...i just call them random things...and they are okie dokie with it..ya.. so ya..hope u find a solution to ur problems or whatever u would call them lol. :]  ~turtle fuzzyness
