Parakeets and cats, living together?!?!?!?!?

First to start with the non-threatening animals. Our dogs. We have two dogs, but with their lazy personalties, they wont want to exert more energy to bother a bird. Now to my cats. They love to watch the birds outside, and one of my cats has swatted three of our fishes out of their tanks. What should i do? I'm determined to get a budgie, but will my cat kill it? What should i do? I know my cat wouldn't hurt it, being mean, but more so to play. Spray my cat with a water bottle? would that work? idk. help???

  1. i wouldnt suggest getting a budgie beacuse of the cat but if u really want it then go rite ahead... just be sure to seperate the cat and the budgie... thats the best advice i can give you... sry

  2. I have a cat and 2 parakeets.  All you need to do is close the door to the room that the parakeet is in and keep your cat away from the cage.  Scare your cat when it is near the cage..

  3. If they have no contact then it will be fine.  Just make sure when you're taking the bird out then shut the cat out of the room.  That's really all you can do.

    I hope I helped!

  4. Its instinct and the cat will probably kill the bird. Monitor the interactions every time, even when you think they are comfortable together and nothing will happen. That will be the time that it does happen. Cats are smart predators. They'll wait till you arent looking then look at you like they did nothing wrong...after they eat your bird.  : )

  5. make sure the Parakeets cage has small bar spacing, like half an inch. Try and keep your cats in another room when your birdies are out of their cage playing. Make sure your birds are never out of their cage with the cats around. Most likely your cat will kill your bird, but a budgie could bite your cat on the nose, and they can bite hard.

  6. This is not the best enviorment for a bird.

    1. When a bird is scared it will bite what ever is closest. The bird will always be scared of the cat, that is nature.

    2. Cats are built to kill birds. The seliva in their mouths is posion to a bird, the slightest scrach and your bird will die unless you have a vet close by,
