I have two parakeets one male and one female. They have been mating for the last 3-4 days. I have the nest box set up. The female keeps going in it on and off threw out the day for few ours in. I keep checking for eggs and non inside but when i go to open the box she seems worried and comes to see what im doing. Anyone know if this is normal and if she will lay eggs???

  1. she will lay eggs just give her abit of time she is just checking out the box if they have only been mating the last 3-4days they wont have the eggs yet but they will just be patient

  2. probably to old o out of something

  3. It takes 4-6 days after a successful mating for an egg to be laid. Its possible she is "gravid" with an egg after a successful breeding. They can have a "torpedo butt" look if she does have an egg- her bottom will be pouched and look swollen. She will stay in the box more and more. Give her lots of water and keep the humidity high to help her out. Keep an eye on her bottom and if it does look swollen and stay swollen, and she seems extremly uncomfortable- on the floor of the cage, in the box and not wanting to leave, not eating, seeming anxious, etc, she could be eggbound. That means GO TO VET!!

    Good luck!

  4. I say go with Care2Ado that sounds good.

  5. The male could be infertile. Or the female could be. Unless there is a problem then they should have eggs.
