the blue one is mine..but the yellow one is anouther bird from the pet shop.

he is soo pretty. and he is tame. i can put him on my finger and he won't fly away. his name is derick.

i also have a yellow parakeet named pennelopee.

this is a picture of a parakeet that LOOKS exactly like her:

well, aren't they pretty?

i LOVE them. pennelopee isn't attatched to me, at all.

but derick and i love each other.

i just got him a few hours ago and we are bonding great.

i was wondering though, all of the all yellow birds i have had were mean and not able to bond....but all my blue and green birds like shown above[in first picutre] bond perfectly. does color mean anything in personality of something?

  1. No I doubt it.  I think it was just luck that your yellow ones weren't as attached to you.  I'm glad Derick is a nice bird.

  2. i would say no. some parakeets are different my mom has a blue one name blueberry (of corse) he is scared all the time and doesn't bond well.

  3. Not at all, color has nothing to do with it. Gender on the other hand, can. Generally speaking, male parakeets (budgies) tend to me nicer/friendlier than female keets. This isn't always true, but usually is. By the looks of it, your blue bird is a male, and the yellow/green bird he is grooming, is a female. Your yellow bird, Penelopee, is hard to tell because she is Harlequin/Lutino colored, which means her cere will not be colored with maturity like regular colored birds (such as the blue, and the yellow/green keets). The dilution gene she carries, dilutes her cere color, so it will always be a fleshy/pink color. If she is female, there will be more white around her nostrils, if she is male, the color will be more solid. This however, is not a foolproof method, just better judgement.

  4. color makes no difference, if the birds are together, separate them and your blue bird will bond with you, if they are together they will bond with each other, maybe not now but eventually they will. good luck
